Purpose of the Clinic
The Neurological Disorders, Ageing and Balance Clinic provides an integrated and holistic service offering specific intervention programs and exercise classes with an emphasis on health & wellbeing. Clients may also have opportunities to be involved in research activities. This clinic provides a service to community based adult clients with:

  • Diagnosed neurological disorders such as Stroke, Traumatic Brain or Spinal Cord Injury, Parkinson's Disease and Multiple Sclerosis
  • Movement disorders associated with Vestibular Dysfunction, Muscular Dystrophies, Diabetes, Peripheral Vascular Disease following Amputation, to list a few.
  • Movement and balance difficulties associated with ageing including persons who have had, or are at risk of, a fall.
  • Congenital and acquired disabilities.

Services offered:
Intervention programs will:

  • Provide a comprehensive physical and functional assessment for all clients with movement problems.
  • Identify the cause of movement problems.
  • Provide interventions on an individual basis or within a class setting.
  • Be based on a model of self management

A screening service is also offered to the community to identify clients at risk of a fall, with an opportunity to participate in specific balance strategy training programs to reduce the risk of falling.

The opportunity to participate in research studies is serviced by the clinic. Clients who choose to participate in such research studies are not charged for the intervention when it is part of the study.

Criteria for referral
All clients with balance or movements disorders, or those concerned about the development of such problems with ageing, will be accepted as direct self / family member referrals or following referral from medical and allied health colleagues.

Fees
Fees are set at two levels

A supervised student service
Initial consultation and screening for balance / movement problems $55
Follow-up consultations - Individual basis $25
Follow-up consultations - Class basis, 6 classes $90
   
A specialised consultation with a staff member
Initial Consultation $80
Follow-up consultation $60
